The Quilt - A Neighborhood Nursery School Tradition:
For over 30 years Neighborhood Nursery School has been producing
beautiful handmade quilts as a central part of our fundraising efforts.
Initially, the quilts were made as a collective collage of individual
patterns contributed by each of the families. In the early 90šs, the
school decided to focus on more traditional quilts with organized
patterns. A committee was officially formed to coordinate the 200 or so man-hours required to put together our quilt. The committee selects the design, color and pattern of the quilt, and organizes the quilt
rotation among the parent body. Each family contributes 4 to 6 hours of sewing at the quilt loom. It is a prized experience that allows parents to socialize and catch up on school business in an old-fashioned communal setting.
Today the NNS Quilt is an established tradition and the cornerstone of
our Spring Fair. Families, friends, guests and far-off relatives buy
raffle tickets for a chance to win this one-of-a-kind Quilt.
