FAQs

What is a Co-op Preschool?

In a co-op, families assist with the operation of the school in exchange for low tuition. Parents are involved in all aspects of the school’s daily operations.

What are the family commitments?

Families work once a week as a teaching assistant, and are assigned to a yearly committee job. Parents must attend a monthly parent meeting, and families are also required to participate in fundraising events throughout the year, including our annual Spring Fair.

What is the benefit of a Co-op?

Children benefit from a truly welcoming environment, where they can become comfortable with their peers and supportive adults. Parents are present weekly for workdays, which helps many children adjust to being in a school environment for the first time.

Parents benefit from low tuition costs, the ability to participate in their children’s preschool experience, and a supportive community of families.

The entire family benefits from a close-knit community where you truly get to know the other co-op members.

What makes NNS special?

What makes us special is our incredible, welcoming community. The co-op model allows students to get to know the other children, the teachers and the parents. Children have a nurturing, supportive space where they are allowed to explore freely, encouraged to participate in conflict resolution, and learn to advocate for themselves and their needs.

Our frequent school events create a space for meaningful connections and bonding among both the students and their families. NNS is a place that creates life-long friendships and community connections, for parent and child alike!

How many days can my child attend?

Entering students begin at 2 days a week, and gradually add more days over the course of the program. This allows your child to adjust to the routine of preschool and become comfortable in the space. Typically students attend for 2 and 3 days during their first year, and then 4 and 5 days during their second year.
